Selection Differences Between New Construction Projects and Demolition Works

The operating conditions of a construction waste chute differ greatly between new construction projects and demolition works. New construction produces relatively uniform waste with controllable particle size; demolition produces complex waste with large blocks and strong impact. Based on the characteristics of the two scenarios, Longkang explains the selection differences.

  1. Characteristics of New Construction Projects
  2. Waste type
  • Main structure phase: crushed concrete chunks, rebar ends, formwork waste
  • Masonry phase: broken bricks, mortar, blocks
  • Decoration phase: wood chips, gypsum board, plastic pipes, packaging materials
  • Waste is relatively uniform, particle size is controllable
  1. Waste volume
  • Standard floor 2000–3000 m²
  • Daily waste volume about 15–25 m³
  • Varies by phase: highest during the masonry phase
  1. Impact intensity
  • Waste is manually and controllably fed in
  • Single piece weight ≤10kg
  • Fall height is controllable
  • Moderate impact
  1. Installation conditions
  • Building structure is intact, external scaffold can be used
  • Installed floor by floor as construction progresses
  • Space is relatively regular
  1. Characteristics of Demolition Works
  2. Waste type
  • Large concrete chunks, masonry, construction waste
  • Contains rebar and metal parts
  • Particle size is uneven; may include oversized blocks
  • Complex waste mixed with metal and wood
  1. Waste volume
  • Demolition works produce large waste volume
  • Daily volume may reach 30–50 m³
  • Concentrated rush demolition with distinct peaks
  1. Impact intensity
  • Large concrete chunks can weigh 20–50 kg
  • Strong falling impact
  • Pipe is prone to damage
  • May contain sharp metal that scratches the pipe wall
  1. Installation conditions
  • Building structure is unstable, fixing points are hard to find
  • Must be fed from the top demolition opening
  • High safety risk

III. Comparison of Selection Differences

Comparison item New construction Demolition works
Diameter 500mm Standard 600mm Heavy-duty
Wall thickness 8mm 10–12 mm
Per-section load capacity 400kg 800kg and above
Buffer section One every 25m One every 15m
Feed inlet grid Optional Required (to intercept oversized blocks)
Bottom reinforcement Standard Reinforced buffer + wear-resistant liner
Fixing method External scaffold clamp Structural anchor fixing
Service life 5 years 2–3 years (high wear)
Throughput requirement 20 m³/day 30–50 m³/day
  1. Selection Recommendations for New Construction
  2. Choose 500mm Standard diameter
  • Good versatility, handles waste from all phases
  • Moderate cost
  1. Wall thickness 8mm
  • Handles normal impact
  • Moderate weight
  1. Fixing method
  • Use external scaffold clamps
  • One fixing point every 4–5 m
  1. Buffer design
  • One 45° elbow buffer section every 25m
  • For super high-rise, every 20m
  1. Accessories
  • Each floor feed inlet with movable door
  • Bottom connected to collection hopper
  • Optional dust extraction interface
  1. Selection Recommendations for Demolition Works
  2. Choose 600mm Heavy-duty diameter
  • Large waste does not cause blockage
  • High throughput
  1. Wall thickness 10–12 mm
  • Withstands strong impact
  • Long wear-resistant life
  1. Reinforced buffer
  • Buffer sections every 15m
  • Double-layer buffer at the bottom
  • Inner wall can be lined with wear-resistant rubber
  1. Grid at feed inlet
  • Intercepts blocks larger than 450mm
  • Prevents pipe blockage
  • Prevents sharp objects such as rebar
  1. Fixing method
  • Anchored into the structure with chemical anchors
  • Cannot rely on unstable scaffolding
  • One fixing point every 3m
  1. Safety measures
  • Protective canopy at the top
  • Warning zone at the bottom
  • Check pipe integrity daily
  1. Selection for Mixed Projects

Many projects involve both new construction and demolition (e.g., expansion and renovation). Recommendations:

  1. Select based on the worst-case working condition (demolition phase)
  2. Choose 600mm Heavy-duty to cover both scenarios
  3. Denser buffer section arrangement
  4. Feed inlet fitted with grid (removable)
  5. One chute system used throughout the entire project cycle

VII. Longkang Services

Longkang provides differentiated solutions for different project types:

  1. New construction: Standard configuration, best cost-performance
  2. Demolition works: Heavy-duty + reinforced buffer, durable and reliable
  3. Mixed projects: designed for severe working conditions
  4. Technical engineers conduct site surveys to confirm installation conditions
  5. Provides safe-use training
