Construction Waste Chute Selection: Standard Sections vs. Elbow Sections

The construction waste chute system consists of standard sections and various functional sections; elbow sections are key components for changing pipe direction and for buffering and deceleration. Longkang's standard sections and elbow sections are designed as a matched set and must be properly configured during selection. This article explains the selection and configuration method for standard sections and elbow sections.

  1. Standard Sections
  2. Function
  • Forms the main pipe body
  • Vertically conveys waste
  • Section length 1.5m (standard)
  1. Specifications
  • Diameter: 400/500/600mm
  • Wall thickness: 6/8/10mm
  • Connection flanges at both ends
  • Fixing clamp point at the middle
  1. Quantity calculation
  • Determined by total pipe length
  • Total length ÷ 1.5m = number of standard sections
  • Deduct the length occupied by elbow and buffer sections
  1. Elbow Sections (Bend Sections)
  2. Function
  • Changes pipe direction
  • Buffers and decelerates (dissipates the kinetic energy of falling waste)
  • Connects different installation segments
  1. Angle specifications
  • 30° elbow: gentle bend, low resistance
  • 45° elbow: commonly used buffer angle
  • 60° elbow: sharper bend
  • 90° elbow: right-angle turn
  1. Length
  • 45° elbow: about 0.8m
  • 90° elbow: about 0.6m
  • Standard interfaces at both ends of the elbow section

III. Buffer Sections (Deceleration Sections)

  1. Function
  • Slows the falling speed of waste
  • Reduces impact at the bottom
  • Extends pipe service life
  1. Structural types
  • 45° elbow buffer: uses the bend to dissipate kinetic energy
  • Spiral buffer: spiral deflectors on the inner wall
  • Enlarged buffer: locally enlarged diameter to create vortex deceleration
  1. Installation principles
  • One buffer section every 15–25 m
  • For super high-rise, every 10–15 m
  • Buffer must be installed at the bottom
  1. Feed-in Sections
  2. Function
  • Floor-level waste feed inlet
  • Connects the floor to the main pipe
  1. Types
  • Side feed-in section: feed opening on the side of the pipe with a movable door
  • Top feed-in section: feeds from the top of the pipe, connecting to the floor platform
  • Elbow feed-in section: 90° turn, fed horizontally from the floor then falls vertically
  1. Configuration
  • One feed inlet per floor
  • With sealed door (dust and splash proof)
  • Grid can be installed to intercept large blocks
  1. Discharge Sections
  2. Function
  • Bottom waste discharge end
  • Connects to collection hopper or waste truck
  1. Types
  • Direct-drop discharge: vertical direct discharge
  • Elbow discharge: 90° turn, horizontal discharge into collection hopper
  • Sealed discharge: with closing door to reduce dust
  1. Configuration
  • Within ≤500mm of the collection hopper
  • Can connect to canvas flexible connector
  • Optional dust extraction interface
  1. Inspection Sections
  2. Function
  • Clearing when the pipe is blocked
  • Routine inspection and maintenance
  • Observing conditions inside the pipe
  1. Types
  • Observation section: with transparent viewing window
  • Opening section: removable cover plate
  • Inspection section: large opening for easy hand cleaning
  1. Installation principles
  • One inspection section every 30m
  • Inspection sections must be installed at turns
  • Inspection section must be installed at the bottom

VII. Section Configuration Example

Example: an 80m high-rise residential building with a 500mm-diameter chute

Section type Quantity Description
Standard section (1.5m) About 48 sections Main pipe
45° buffer section 3 At 20m/40m/60m
Feed-in section 27 One per floor
90° top feed elbow 1 Top feed opening
90° bottom discharge elbow 1 Discharges to collection hopper at the bottom
Inspection section 4 One every 20m
Connection fasteners 60 sets At both ends of each section
Fixing clamps 25 sets One every 3–4 m

VIII. Selection Considerations

  1. Turn angle should not be too small: turns <30° are prone to blockage
  2. Buffer sections are required: without buffers in high-rise projects, the bottom is easily damaged
  3. Inspection openings cannot be omitted: without them, blockages cannot be cleared
  4. Feed inlet with door: prevents dust and splashing
  5. Discharge outlet sealed: bottom dust is a key control area
  6. Longkang Section Accessories

Longkang provides a complete section product line:

  1. Standard sections: 1.5m, three diameters
  2. Elbow sections: 30°/45°/60°/90°
  3. Buffer sections: dedicated 45° buffer design
  4. Feed-in sections: side feed / top feed, with movable door
  5. Discharge sections: direct-drop / elbow / sealed
  6. Inspection sections: observation opening / opening type
  7. Connection fasteners: quick-lock, with sealing rings

All sections have unified interfaces, good interchangeability, and can be freely combined.
