The diameter of a construction waste chute directly affects throughput, waste type suitability, and installation cost. Longkang offers three standard diameter specifications—400mm, 500mm, and 600mm—and customers should select based on actual needs. This article explains in detail the differences among the three diameters and their applicable scenarios.

- Applicable Scenarios for the 400mm Specification
Applicable waste types:
- Decoration debris: wood chips, gypsum board, plastic pipe, insulation material
- Broken bricks, mortar chunks (small pieces)
- Packaging materials, domestic-type construction waste
- Sweeping waste
Applicable projects:
- Interior fine decoration projects (demolition stage)
- Existing building renovation, partial refurbishment
- Low-rise residences (1–6 floors)
- Interior decoration of office buildings and shopping malls
- Projects with short duration and small waste volume
Advantages:
- Light weight, fastest installation
- Lowest cost
- Small footprint, suitable for narrow locations
- Flexible; can be installed inside an elevator shaft
Limitations:
- Blockage risk from large concrete pieces
- Limited throughput
- Not suitable for the main structure stage
III. Applicable Scenarios for the 500mm Specification
Applicable waste types:
- Mixed construction waste (broken bricks + concrete + decoration debris)
- Waste from the typical-floor masonry stage
- Small to medium concrete blocks (≤350mm)
- Medium-sized waste from demolition works
Applicable projects:
- Main structure construction of high-rise residences (7–33 floors)
- Projects with a typical floor of 2000–3000 m²
- Overlapping masonry and decoration stages
- Demolition works (medium scale)
- General-purpose projects
Advantages:
- Widest range of application, strongest versatility
- Throughput meets the needs of most projects
- Low blockage risk
- Best cost-performance ratio
Positioning: 500mm is the most commonly used standard specification in the industry; Longkang recommends 500mm as the first choice for most projects.
- Applicable Scenarios for the 600mm Specification
Applicable waste types:
- Large concrete blocks, large bricks and stones
- Large waste from demolition works (≤450mm)
- Heavy construction waste
- Muck/spoil from bridge and tunnel works
Applicable projects:
- Main structure construction of super high-rise buildings (>33 floors)
- Large-scale demolition works
- Industrial factory building demolition
- Bridge demolition
- Projects with per-building waste volume >30m³/day
Advantages:
- Maximum throughput
- Minimum blockage risk
- Suitable for heavy waste
- Obvious efficiency advantage in super high-rise buildings
Limitations:
- Heavy, requiring more labor for installation
- Highest cost
- Large footprint
- Difficult to install in narrow locations
- Diameter Selection Decision Process
Step 1: Determine the construction stage
- Main structure stage → 500mm or 600mm
- Masonry stage → 500mm
- Decoration stage → 400mm or 500mm
- Demolition stage → 500mm or 600mm
Step 2: Determine waste particle size
- Maximum piece ≤250mm → 400mm
- Maximum piece ≤350mm → 500mm
- Maximum piece ≤450mm → 600mm
Step 3: Determine daily waste volume
- ≤15m³/day → 400mm
- 15–25 m³/day → 500mm
Step 4: Determine installation conditions
- Narrow space → 400mm
- Conventional location → 500mm
- Ample space, large waste volume → 600mm
- Relationship Between Blockage and Diameter
Blockage of construction waste inside the chute is a common problem closely related to diameter:
- Too small a diameter: large waste pieces jam directly and require manual clearing
- Too large a diameter: waste falls too fast, causing large impact at the bottom
- Optimal diameter: waste particle size ≤60% of the diameter; i.e., for a 500mm chute the maximum piece is 300mm
- Anti-blockage measures:
- Install a grid at the feed inlet to intercept oversized pieces
- Regular water flushing (for mortar-type waste)
- Bend angles ≥30°, avoiding right angles
VII. Longkang Recommendation
Based on accumulated engineering experience, Longkang recommends:
- Most projects should choose the 500mm Standard type for best versatility
- Pure decoration projects should choose 400mm for low cost and fast installation
- Super high-rise buildings or large demolition volumes should choose 600mm for high efficiency
- When in doubt, choose 500mm, which covers over 90% of scenarios
- Longkang supports non-standard customization; special diameters can be manufactured according to drawings
