Key Winter Maintenance Points for Construction Waste Chutes

In low-temperature winter environments, construction waste chutes require special maintenance to prevent freezing damage and operational problems. This article introduces key winter maintenance points.

  1. Main Winter Problems

Standing water in the chute freezes and expands

HDPE becomes brittle at low temperatures

Frozen mortar causes blockage

Seals harden

Installation becomes difficult

  1. Anti-freezing Measures
  2. Drain Standing Water

Drain standing water from the chute after daily use

Open the bottom drain valve

Confirm no standing water

Drain when not in use at night

  1. Preventing Ice Blockage

Do not discharge water-containing waste

Drain mortar-type waste as much as possible

Stop use upon finding ice

Use warm water to melt ice blockage (do not use fire)

  1. Chute Insulation (Optional)

Wrap chutes in insulation layer in severe cold regions

Thickness 30–50 mm

Outer waterproof protection

Suitable for chutes out of long-term service

III. Low-Temperature Operation Notes

  1. HDPE Low-Temperature Performance

Longkang HDPE embrittlement temperature -40 °C

Usable normally in winter in most regions of China

Still ductile below -20 °C

  1. Avoid Impact

Reduce large-block impact in extreme cold

Use tower crane for large waste blocks

Prevent brittle fracture

  1. Operation Notes

Winter construction personnel should watch for slipping

Remove ice on the chute exterior promptly

Treat ice at the feed inlet before reuse

  1. Winter Maintenance of Seals
  2. Sealing Rings

Rubber hardens at low temperatures

Elasticity decreases

Sealing performance decreases

Inspect and replace in winter

  1. Buckles

Metal buckles contract at low temperatures

Check bolt tightness

Prevent loosening

  1. Door Sealing

Sealing strip hardens

Door does not close tightly

Replace with new sealing strips in winter

  1. Winter Storage
  2. Chutes Out of Service

Drain standing water

Remove for storage (short-term shutdown)

Or insulate and keep fixed long-term

  1. Removed Sections

Clean thoroughly

Store indoors

Avoid direct sunlight

Prevent deformation

  1. Sealing Rings

Remove and store separately

Avoid compression deformation

Store indoors

  1. Winter Installation

Choose clear weather

Installation personnel keep warm and watch for slipping

Dry joints before installing sealing rings

Tighten buckle bolts (metal is brittle at low temperatures)

Install when wind force ≤ Grade 5

VII. Extremely Cold Regions

Regions below -30 °C such as Northeast China and Xinjiang

Select cold-resistant HDPE (special formula)

Insulate the chute

Install indoors as much as possible

Reduce large-block impact

VIII. Longkang Winter Services

Provide winter maintenance guide

Cold-resistant products available
