Construction waste chutes may develop local damage during use; timely repair extends service life and avoids full replacement. This article introduces damage repair methods.
Longitudinal cracks
Transverse cracks
Cause: impact or aging
Holes caused by waste impact
Cause: high-speed impact of large blocks
Buffer section wear
Bottom section wear
Cause: long-term erosion
Chute dents
Cause: external impact
Clean the crack surface
Hot-air weld with HDPE-specific welding rod
Grind smooth after welding
Applicable to: non-load-bearing areas
Clean around the hole
Cover with an HDPE sheet
Hot-air weld around the edges
Or use specialized plastic repair adhesive
Full section replacement recommended
Repair is costly and unreliable
Especially buffer sections and bottom sections
Wrap the outer wall at the damaged area with FRP
Apply epoxy resin
Increase strength
Temporary measure
III. HDPE Welding Procedure
Hot-air welding gun
HDPE welding rod (same material)
Temperature: 250–300 °C
Clean the damaged area (dry and clean)
Cut a V-groove (depth = 1/2 of wall thickness)
Hot-air heat the welding rod and base material
Weld and fill
Grind smooth after cooling
Check sealing performance
Weld seam strong
Sealed, no leakage
No cold welds
Cracks exceeding 1/3 of chute length
Severe aging in multiple areas
Wall thickness wear exceeding 50%
Buffer section severely worn
Rupture at joints
In the above cases, full section replacement is mandatory
Weld seam appearance
Sealing test
Strength check
Verify with trial waste discharge
Record repair location and time
Must use HDPE welding rod of the same material
Welding surfaces must be dry and clean
Accurate temperature control
Repair only non-load-bearing areas
Load-bearing areas (buffer section, bottom) must be directly replaced
